2. Build Quality

The Shark IQ robot has an excellent build quality. It’s made from black plastic that has a largely matte finish. It also has shiny accents and a front bumper of rubber and wheels.

The dirt compartment is composed of hard black plastic, but it feels like it could be broken when dropped.

It is easy to put together because all you have to do is install the side brushes that can be inserted into the top side of the vacuum.

3. User Maintenance

Shark IQ Robot Vacuum AV970 5

It’s a good thing that the Shark IQ Robot AV970 has many components that require regular maintenance. This can be a little difficult to keep up with. Luckily, the parts are simple to access.

  • Brush roll: This brush roll is self-cleaning; however, you can also open the cover for the brush roll on the lower part of the vacuum to get it open and clean all debris built up with your hands.
  • Charging pads: The charging pads in the vacuum and on the charging dock need to be cleaned regularly using a dry cloth.
  • Dustbin: Trash is taken away by pushing the release button on the rear of the vacuum. It is recommended to empty it into the garbage bin every time you use it. You should also remove hair that has accumulated on the comb to remove tangles attached to the dustbin.
  • Filter: It is in the compartment for dirt. It isn’t washable with water. However, it needs regular cleaning. To do that, just tap it on a garbage bin to get rid of dirt and dust.
  • Front-wheel: It should be removed regularly so that it is possible to remove any debris that has accumulated on it and the housing. It’s difficult to get rid of, and it is possible to employ an instrument.
  • Side brushes: Side brushes can be removed from their sockets to clean. It is recommended to dust them off with a dry cloth and take out any hairs that are tangled.
  • Drive wheels: They should be cleaned regularly. Make sure that you turn them around in their housings as you go.
  • Sensors: The vacuum’s sensors must be cleaned regularly using a dry cloth.

4. Battery

The Shark IQ Robot AV970’s battery life is outstanding. When it is set to its most powerful suction setting called ‘Max,’ it offers just a bit more than 1 hour of uninterrupted cleaning. In its lowest suction setting, Eco, it lasts more than two and two-and-a-half hours.

It recharges faster than its predecessor, Shark IQ Robot RV1001; however, it still takes approximately four hours to fully charge; that’s quite a long time.

In addition, there are two light fixtures on top of the vacuum, which indicate the remaining battery’s lifespan. If both lights turn blue, the vacuum is fully charged.

When the battery is depleted, one of the lights goes off to signal that it is charging. If the battery is at a low level, it will turn red.

The battery’s performance may vary depending on the conditions of use. Your experience could be different.

5. Recurring Cost

This vacuum comes with a variety of ongoing expenses.

  • Brush roll: The brush roll must be replaced as soon as you see signs of wear or every six to 12 months.
  • Side brushes: Side brushes must be replaced whenever they become broken or bent.
  • Filter: The user’s manual does not specify a time frame for replacing the filter. However, it states that it must be replaced frequently to maintain the performance of the vacuum.
  • Front-wheel: Front-wheel is replaced at least every 12 months.

6. Dirt Compartment

The Shark IQ Robot AV970’s dirt chamber isn’t particularly impressive. It’s roughly identical to the Shark RV1001 IQ Robot’s, and, like many Robot vacuums, it’s tiny and has to be emptied frequently.

However, it’s not equipped with an upper limit for filling or any indicator that lets users know when the tank is filled, and it is made of transparent plastic, which makes it difficult to determine the amount of debris it is.

7. Automation (Robot Vacuum)

The Shark IQ Robot AV970 comes with amazing automation features. It is compatible with an app that lets you examine the state of the vacuum’s batteries and alter its power setting, get alerts via email about its condition in cleaning, stop and start cleaning, schedule cleaning times and check its history of cleaning.

Additionally, you can operate the vacuum using voice commands if you own the Google Home or Amazon Alexa device.

In contrast to the Shark IQ Robot RV1001, however, you can’t utilize the app to direct it to a specific area in your home. However, you can view an outline of the areas covered following each cleaning session.

Additionally, you can set the device to “Recharge and Resume” to continue cleaning in the same spot it left off when it returns to its dock to charge. The app, however, isn’t very user-friendly.

Although there’s no option to define virtual boundary lines within the application, the vacuum has the physical strip ‘BotBoundary,’ which you can use to ensure it stays out of the area you want it to be.

It also has buttons at the top of the unit to begin and end the cleaning process without an internet connection.

8. Maneuverability

The Shark IQ Robot AV970 is a good choice for those who want good maneuverability. Like the Shark IQ Robot RV1001, It runs in straight lines at first, but it cleans in smaller sections as it gets closer to obstacles.

It’s small enough to fit under furniture with low legs and doesn’t get caught in electrical cords, though it does drag or push the cords around before moving over. However, it could be caught in rug tassels.

Performance of Shark IQ Robot AV970

Shark IQ Robot Vacuum AV970 1

1. Low-Pile Carpet

The Shark IQ Robot has an acceptable performance on carpets with low piles. It gets rid of a decent amount of pet hair and does well with bigger debris such as sand. It is, however, unable to handle tiny particles of baking soda, particularly as its dirt compartment is filled.

2. High-Pile Carpet

The Shark IQ robot AV970 offers excellent performance for high-pile carpets. It gets rid of pet hair as well as large particles like sand. It can do a good job using fine materials like baking soda.

3. Bare Floor

The Shark IQ robot AV970 gives an average performance on unfinished floors. While it does an excellent job of picking up smaller particles such as rice, it cannot handle pet hair. It’s not the best for taking up large debris such as cereal. It will suck some up.

However, some of it may be stuck in the brush roll, which can cause it to become jammed. The ability of the vacuum to remove larger particles like cereal drops considerably when the dirt compartment is filled up.

The Shark IQ Robot AV970 is notable for its excellent performance on carpets with a high pile and is similar to models such as the IRobot Roomba, the i4, and the iRobot Roomba S9.

It is similar in design and style to that of the shark RV1001 Robot RV1001; however, it has less performance on floors that are not bare.
